LOCALHOST VANCOUVER (July 21st - 28th 2024) A week of tech, media, & other explorations of how to create things we can own together

DWebYVR is gathering the Vancouver community to participate in a week of events exploring tech, media, and creating things we can own together.

  • What does it mean to buy local – for software?
  • Where is your Internet made?
  • Your digital art deserves a home you can own.
  • Tech doesn’t live in San Francisco.
  • How does the Internet work?

From July 20th to 26th the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) are in Vancouver for a global gathering of people who build and define the standards that run the Internet.

At IETF Hackathons, developers and subject matter experts discuss, collaborate, and develop utilities, ideas, sample code and solutions… The Hackathon is free to attend and open to everyone. … Projects from past Hackathons cover a range of technologies spanning almost all IETF work areas, including BGP, BPF, CoAP, DNS, HTTP 2.0, I2NSF, QUIC, SRv6, TLS 1.3, YANG/NETCONF/RESTCONF, and many others. … Don’t see anything that interests you? Then add your preferred project to the list, sign up as its champion and show up to work on it.

Drawing on practices of local-first , solar-powered servers , folk software , and permacomputing , Our Networks 2024 explores transitional technologies and forms of computing that break from always-on connectivity. Over the course of the event, we will investigate histories, tools, and approaches like these that allow us to reframe what computing could mean when the internet, and the cloud, are optional.
